Aveo receives planning approval for $8.5m Victorian development

Planning approval [January 8th]  for an $85 million project in Melbourne’s east has been received.

A new community centre will be built within the first stage, to complement the existing centre and will feature a café, 40-seat theatre, library, billiard rooms, gymnasium and world-class Wellness Centre.

The final phase of the redevelopment comprises 144 spacious Independent Living Units across three buildings that are four levels in height.

Executive General Manager of Integrated Retirement Communities Jason Eldering said the country’s ageing population was a contributing factor as to why Aveo has received planning approval.

“With people living longer, there is an increased demand within communities for quality residential aged care and co-located retirement giving residents a ‘community for life’,” Mr Eldering said.

“At Aveo we offer a tiered approach to the ageing process by having all levels of care provided on-site, enabling residents to live independently or with the level of care required.

“Further, it provides residents and family members with peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are being looked after around the clock with the best care available.”

Mr Eldering added that residents within the community have responded well to the development news.

“The plans have been welcomed by a number of residents at Aveo Mingarra – they recognise the positive impact it will have and are looking forward to the significantly upgraded amenities and services,” he said.

“These spectacular new buildings are also for tomorrow’s baby boomers – we’re meeting their expectations so when the time comes for them to move into a retirement  community, everything they need is right on their doorstep and delivered to the highest standard.”

Margaret Richards, who has resided in the community for 10 years, said: “None of us know if we will require a nursing home – if we do it is comforting to know that there will be a state of the art [facility] within these grounds and residents will be offered a bed when one becomes available.”

Aveo Mingarra Aged Care was established 20 years ago and is already home to an existing 60-bed residential aged care service providing a full spectrum of enhanced care and support to residents.  This aged care facility will be replaced by the new 110-bed residential aged care facility on completion.

One hundred and fifty-five Independent Living Units and community and recreation facilities also exist on-site.

The new development will be at the highest point of the retirement community, with the land originally associated with the grounds of the Sacred Heart Monastery. Built in 1939, the original heritage-listed monastery and school are still open to the public today.

Just 33km from Melbourne and 15km from the Dandenong Ranges National Park, Aveo Mingarra in its leafy surrounds is located at 77-115 Mount Dandenong Road, Croydon.
