How downsizing can equal a stress-free retirement

Moving house for anyone at any stage of life can be stressful.

We all have so many things that hold sentimental value to us and things that we may not have seen in years.

For people who have been living in their homes for a long time, the thought of moving can become overwhelming.

Karen Morgan is a professional organiser from Task Tamers who is experienced in helping people downsize in their senior years.

“People choose to downsize for a number of reasons, but when the time comes, deciding what to do with our possessions can be daunting.” Karen says.

“Many seniors can no longer afford or physically maintain the upkeep on their family home and they simply do not need all of that space.”

“Some people want to free up their time for travelling during their retirement and feel trapped by the ongoing maintenance of their house.”

Karen says there are many financial, social and physical benefits to downsizing from a large home to a retirement village in your senior years.

Not only does it free up more time to enjoy the things that matter most in life, like time with family, but it also brings feelings of safety and purpose to live within a community of like-minded people.

“For people who have lost a significant other and may be feeling lonely, downsizing to a retirement community is an ideal option to regain that sense of community and build new social connections.” Karen says.

“Often knowing that mum or dad are safe and no longer have to maintain their home all alone brings peace of mind for families.”

“Retirement villages also offer a range of social activities and often have staff on-site to help you with things around the house.”
