Alan joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1941 at the age of 19 and served until the end of World War II in 1945.
Flying aircraft including Tiger Moths and Hawker Hurricanes across the Mediterranean, Alan was commended for performed a crash landing in Cairo after being shot at close range.
Much like his father did in World War I, Alan lost many great mates in combat.
