Meet Deanne, Freedom Taylor Street’s incredible Diversional Therapist!
Deanne was one of the first team members at Freedom Taylor Street and has worked at the community for just over eight years.
In her role as Diversional Therapist, she develops leisure and lifestyle programs for residents, working with a team of talented staff to empower residents to make decisions that maximise their quality of life.
We caught up with Deanne recently to see how she’s been supporting residents in the last few months.
How have you been helping residents stay socially connected in recent months?
“The residents have been keeping busy with a number of different activities, all of which are incredibly popular. We’ve hosted regular Happy Hours, where residents can catch up with each other over a cold beverage and trivia. There’s also been a number of themed and cultural events, which both residents and staff recognise and attend. Residents have also had many opportunities to show their artistic talents with arts and crafts – it’s been great to see them getting so creative!”
Tell us about life at Freedom Toowoomba.
“Our communities are always full of action and laughter; it has a great social atmosphere. Residents here enjoy playing and participating in various games and challenges, which always brings out their competitive side. Residents can live independently and are able to bring their pets, which makes the communities feel like home. We accept them all here, from birds to large dogs!”
What are the residents like?
“Where to start? They are welcoming, friendly and always manage to make staff feel like family. Working in this community every day makes me feel like I’m part of their lives, and it’s such a great feeling to be able to see the smiles on their faces and know we are making a difference.”
