Freedom Cheltenham resident’s medal display

William (Bill) Elliot joined the army in 1941 at the age of 19 and served until after the end of World War II in 1946.

He served predominantly on the island of Borneo in the Philippines. In his memoirs (self-published), he recalls the difficult conditions that he and his friends faced during the war.

“After being in this environment, you get hardened to lots of things.”

For his service, Bill was decorated with a 1939 / 45 Star, an Australian Service Medal, an Australian Service Medal 1945 / 75 with South West Pacific Bar, and the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II Medallion.

Lest we forget.
