Please join us in wishing a heartfelt congratulations and happy birthday to Roy Cato from our Fernbank retirement community, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday!
To commemorate his special day, the community hosted a party in his honour. Roy's local member, the Hon. Jonathan O'Dea MP even made an appearance to congratulate the centenarian.
Roy is a long-term resident at our Fernbank retirement community, a place that he calls "paradise".
"Moving here was the best decision I ever made, I can't imagine life anywhere else."
When asked for his secret to making it a century in life, Roy says golf and swimming played a big part in his wellbeing.
“I swim in the pool every morning with my friend Diana. We both started swimming together in 2004, and we used to ride exercise bicycles before we swam.
“Although I quit golf a few years ago, it is the game that gets you through life. The course was my second home, it takes your mind off your troubles.”
Roy also has a personal philosophy that all should aspire to.
"Be grateful for what you have. Be compassionate and help people. Always talk respectfully to women!"
Congratulations Roy - we wish you all the happiness in the world!
