Congratulations to Dennis Wellbelove, resident at Freedom Redland Bay by Aveo, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday!
To commemorate his special day, the community threw a Gatsby 1920's themed evening, which began with Dennis enjoying a ride in a 1930’s vintage Chrysler Cruiser, followed by cocktails in the lounge. Dirty Martinis and Brandy Alexanders were on the menu, along with a tasting board covered in vintage cheese and cured meats. Residents also enjoyed a three-course, 1920's inspired dinner, with Beef Wellington, Oysters Rockefeller and a 1920’s styled mud cake.
Between courses, residents kicked up their heels on the dance floor and enjoyed music played by a five-piece band.
Dennis was presented with a framed letter from the Queen and the Governor General, as well as gifts from the residents of Freedom Redland Bay and the RSL Redlands Branch.
Dennis first moved to Freedom Redland Bay just over four years ago, a move he hasn't regretted since.
"I enjoy living here because of its natural living environment," Mr Wellbelove said.
"It suits my needs, the staff here are friendly and they are always willing to help me in any way they can. The residents and the staff are like a family to me - I'd rather be here than anywhere else."
Community Manager Katie Fairman says it was a priviledge to celebrate Dennis' birthday.
"Dennis is a humble, fiercely independent man who is renowned throughout the community for his sincere, gentlemanly nature. We are all so happy that we were able to share this special moment with him and his family," Katie said.
When asked for the secret to making it a century in life, Dennis says it is all about living well.
"Keep active with exercise, eat better and just go with the flow," Dennis said.
Congratulations again Dennis! We wish you all the happiness in the world.
