A major makeover has been unveiled at Mingarra Retirement Living community in Melbourne’s east, introducing new extensive wellness and recreation facilities for residents.
The community centre, set in a leafy, elevated location with scenic views to the Dandenong Ranges, now features a contemporary ‘wellness hub’ with a pool, spa, gym and hair studio. Other additions include a large lounge, dining room, reading nook, café and consultation spaces.
A new-look recreation pavilion offers a billiards room, kitchen, and a large lounge that opens out to a multi-purpose bowling green, a covered veranda, al fresco spaces, and BBQ facilities, ideal for residents who want to socialise, exercise together, or meet for arts and crafts.
The renovations are part of Aveo’s wider commitment to invest in capital upgrades across its Victorian communities.
The reopening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Aveo Chief Executive Officer, Tony Randello and Mingarra’s longest-standing resident Ellen Pallot, who moved into the community 27 years ago and continues to enjoy her independent lifestyle.
“When I first moved into the village, there were only 22 villas, so over the years, we’ve seen Mingarra evolve into the beautiful place it is today. These new community spaces are just wonderful,” Mrs Pallot said.
“It makes me love our village even more now – I use the new areas regularly playing indoor bowls and croquet, making scones once a month for my neighbours and visiting the café with other residents and with friends who live outside the community.
“My sons visit often and love Mingarra as well because they don’t have to worry about me… it gives them peace of mind knowing how happy I am here.”
Mingarra Community Manager, Catherine Inifer, said the upgrades reflected Aveo’s commitment to enhancing resident wellbeing and delivering modern spaces tailored to the way today’s retirees want to live.
“These new community facilities were designed in collaboration with the residents. They are just blown away by the transformation, and we feel so proud to have created a place they love to call home,” Mrs Inifer said.
“Aveo has a priority on creating spaces that encourage connection and a real sense of belonging, fostering new friendships and enabling a healthy lifestyle.
“Mingarra was already a social and active community with plenty of opportunities for residents to meet, mingle and have a lot of fun, but after the refurbishment, it’s great to see them really making these new spaces their own.”
