About The Clayfield

Step inside the secure perimeter of The Clayfield and discover a hidden sanctuary with over 2,000sqm of open, landscaped gardens and thoughtfully designed homes. Located just 6km from the Brisbane CBD, this established retirement community blends the safety and security of spacious, contemporary living with classic heritage sophistication.

Formerly the site for St Columban’s College, The Clayfield is a place steeped in history, with three of Brisbane’s most significant heritage buildings standing proud within its grounds. Over time, the site has become the perfect blend of old and new architecture, welcoming four modern apartment buildings, an a-la-carte restaurant and communal spaces perfect for relaxing and socialising. Both old and new architecture are now enjoyed by an intimate community of over 160 residents, all who love calling The Clayfield home.

Whytecliffe House

At the heart of The Clayfield is Whytecliffe House, a majestic building that has been meticulously restored down to the last detail. With its sweeping cedar staircase, ornate high ceilings, grand archways and elegant verandas, the building is a reminder of grander times while serving as a popular place for residents to socialise. Enjoy a friendly game of billiards, join a morning craft session or unwind with a good book in the library – the choice is yours.

Highlands House

Catch up with friends over a morning coffee at Highlands House, a beautifully refurbished building perched on gently sloping lawns. Originally built in the 1870s, it is one of the earliest surviving houses in Brisbane. The building has been painstakingly restored and adapted as a communal space, with a luxurious dining room, library, rooms perfect for catching up with friends over coffee or a friendly game of Mahjong, and outdoor sitting areas with elevated views of the surrounding community.

O’Driscoll Hall

Originally built in 1926, O’Driscoll Hall once served as the school hall for the students of St Columban’s College. Now used as a communal space, you’ll often hear the sound of laughter and friendly banter echoing throughout the rooms as residents enjoy a competitive game of indoor carpet bowls or put their skills to the test with a game of table tennis.

Blending the old with the new

Nestled amongst the heritage buildings are Brookes, Molloy, Eagle and Sellwood, modern apartment buildings with their own unique personality and charm. Each building has been designed for simplified living and your peace of mind, with a 24-hour emergency call system, intimate courtyards perfect for moments of quiet contemplation, and spacious, modern apartments perfect for those seeking a relaxed and enjoyable lifestyle.
