In early April the residents of the Fernbank retirement village in St Ives enjoyed a scenic cruise on the beautiful Hawkesbury River with Sydney Outback. On board the Sydney Outback Hawkesbury River Cruise, residents enjoyed a tour provided by an Aboriginal guide who showed many of the sites of cultural significance to the local Aboriginal people. The land adjacent to the Hawkesbury River was occupied for many thousands of years by the Darkinjung, Darug, Eora, and Kuringgai Aboriginal peoples who used the river as an important source of food and a place for trade. The Fernbank residents thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of the area while taking in some truly spectacular scenery from the comfort of the boat. The residents enjoy monthly day trips organised by the Fernbank team and are already looking forward to next month’s adventure.
