Fernbank celebrates the Olympics

Home / Retirement Blog / Fernbank celebrates the Olympics

Over 70 Fernbank residents and friends celebrated the Olympics and their community spirit with a torch relay through the village followed by a trivia afternoon tea in the Village Centre.

Residents shared their proud stories of family and friends that have competed in the Olympics, volunteered at the Sydney 2000 Games, or who share an enthusiasm for sport.

Many Fernbank residents have fond memories of volunteering in 2000. Drivers, hosts and technical volunteers were all represented, and wore their uniforms with pride. Resident Mr Barrie Lewis was a torch bearer in the earlier Melbourne games (1956). To ensure he was on time, Barrie spent many hours running through Sydney carrying a 6 pound sledge hammer (the weight of the torch) above his head!

The Fernbank Community are very proud to support their Olympic athlete family and friends. Fernbank residents know Olympic rugby players, Matildas soccer players, cyclists, swimmers.

All who attended the afternoon had a fantastic time, showing their Australian pride.
