A moving Anzac Day service was held at the Aveo Taringa retirement village in Brisbane to mark the Anzac Centenary on Saturday, 25 April. Over 72 village residents and their friends and family members gathered in the Aveo Taringa community lounge to pay their respects to all service men and women, past and present. Three special guest speakers attended the service including serving officer, Lt. Laurance Smith from Gallipoli Barracks at Enoggera, Aveo Taringa resident, Joan Macpherson representing New Zealand, and village staff member, Hulya Isler representing Turkey. Each gave symbolic and memorable speeches relative to their own country’s experiences. Wreaths were laid by all speakers and Aveo Taringa’s Village Manager, Karen Naylor. Afterwards a lovely morning tea of Anzac biscuits, tea and coffee was enjoyed by all.
