The Aveo Botanic Gardens retirement village held its community garage sale open day earlier this month to promote the village and engage with the wider community.
The unpredictable spring weather did not deter bargain hunters and prospective residents, with a continuous stream of people arriving at the village throughout the day from 8am to 4pm. The village bus ferried visitors around the grounds to view the various units available for sale, while Devonshire teas, hot beef and pork rolls, and sausages in bread kept people warm on the chilly Melbourne day. There was a great community spirit in the air as the village residents had worked non-stop in the week leading up to the event in order to make it a success. All of the visitors to the village commented on the friendly atmosphere and enthusiastic residents.
By all accounts it was a great day for the village with a few dollars raised as an added bonus.
