Kylie Radburn, National Care Governance Manager

“Care governance essentially aims to make sure that people receive the right care at the right time, and that it is delivered by staff that are properly trained and well supervised. Residents can be confident that they are receiving quality care. Our other focus in care governance is really making sure that residents are engaged and are in control of their care. So, we want to provide care that is driven by resident and reflects their individual needs.”

What is Care Governance? Why is it important?

“So we are really committed to making sure that we implement a consumer directed approach. If those forms of care are not enough to meet their care services, we also have a range of care services that are aimed at supplementing that care to ensure that people are able to stay in their own home for as long as possible with care and support.”

How does Care Governance support Aveo residents?

“Sometimes when people come into independent living, they are well and quite independent…. I’ve seen some residents come in and experience a sudden deterioration in their health status. Because of the care governance framework that we have, we are able to respond quite promptly and make sure that a combination of Government funded and other care and support is provided. It is really gratifying to see that people can be stabilised in their own home and continue to live independently. I’ve seen some really fantastic outcomes where residents can continue to live in their own home and receive that care that they need. “

“Essentially we help residents to navigate that complicated world and access any government funded care that they might be eligible for.”
