Aveo The Parks resident Beryl James recently celebrated her 102nd birthday with a weeklong celebration .
Beryl, who was born July 25, 1914, this year attended a brunch at Double Tree by Hilton, followed by a celebratory afternoon tea at Aveo The Parks retirement village (complete with balloons!), and lunch at Rydges in Cairns later in the week.
But Beryl says the extravagant festivities weren’t all her doing.
“I don’t like a lot of fuss. Don’t get me wrong. If they say you’re having a party, I love going. I enjoy myself,” she said.
And certainly she has a lot to enjoy in her life. Over her 102 years, Beryl has celebrated the births of three children, nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Despite her huge support system, Beryl still lives completely independently in and Independent Living Unit at Aveo The Parks, crediting her fantastic health to “a good upbringing and good food: no junk”.
Having already cut her 100th birthday cake with the Prime Minister two years, Beryl hugely enjoyed spending this birthday with her closest friends and family, but says she won’t be cutting back on her eventful social life anytime soon.
