Construction of a new integrated retirement community in Newcastle is well underway, with Australia’s leading owner, operator and manager of retirement communities, Aveo Group, today announcing a $30 million investment in to the first stage of its development alongside Shortland Waters Golf Club.

Set to meet the increasing demand for retirement living in the region, Aveo Newcastle will open its doors next year with the first release of 50 two-bedroom independent living units, each complete with car and golf cart parking.

With more and more retirees migrating to the Newcastle region to take advantage of the peaceful lifestyle on offer, Aveo Executive General Manager of Developments, Gary Kordic, said that the development was thoughtfully designed with low maintenance units to allow for relaxed, easy living on the golf course.

“With construction now underway, the master-planned village is on track to deliver Stage One by mid-2017, which will include the release of 50 villas with a mix of golf course and park views, and a three-storey resident community centre which is set to be the heart of the village,” Mr Kordic said.

“Once complete, Aveo Newcastle will feature 300 independent living villas and as well as an aged care facility, to give both local and migrating retirees greater choice when it comes to deciding how they wish to enjoy their later years.

“We’ve incorporated multiple green spaces within the urban design to build a lively social network of residents amidst the picturesque surrounds of the golf course, including accessible pathways to the neighbouring Aquatic Centre at the University of Newcastle.”

With over a fifth of Newcastle’s current population aged over 65 years, Mr Kordic said it was important to Aveo to build infrastructure that fostered a supportive and integrated residential community.

“Aveo Newcastle is built with a focus on care and wellbeing, and as part of this will include 24/7 emergency assistance and consulting rooms for allied health and general medical practitioners.”

Aveo Newcastle Stage One is anticipated for completion mid-2017, with prospective buyers invited to visit the sales office to arrange a tour from November.
