The Aveo Durack community centre upgrade forms part of Aveo’s $6 million Queensland reinvestment commitment for 2015.

More than 200 Durack locals and village residents attended the festivities, which included live entertainment, a cooking demonstration by Aveo Food Services Manager, John Casey, a jumping castle, face painting and lucky prize draws. One lucky attendee won a $2,000 travel card while others won a variety of prizes donated by local businesses. State and local dignitaries including State Member for Sunnybank Peter Russo, Councillor Milton Dick (Richlands) and Councillor Steve Griffiths (Moorooka) took part in the celebration, with Peter Russo, MP officially opening the community centre.

The community centre was appropriately named Canoe Creek Community Centre in honour of John Oxley who in 1823, called the local creek Canoe Creek, and in 1925 it was renamed Oxley Creek which flows into the local creeks such as Blunder Creek.
