The future of life at Aveo Mingarra Integrated Retirement Community
Aveo is planning for the future of retirement living and aged care at Aveo Mingarra, an Integrated Retirement Living Community (IRC). The proposed improvements to our village will enable us to better care for our current and future residents, and deliver better outcomes for residents, their families, staff and the wider community. Aveo aims to provide the best possible facilities, allowing for ageing in place, high quality care across multiple care platforms and greater choice for existing and future residents. For over 25 years, Aveo has been developing, operating and managing retirement villages, and we are proud to be among Australia’s leading providers of senior living communities. With approximately 13,000 residents across our 93 communities nationally, we are continually shaping our services to meet the changing needs of our residents. Within Aveo Mingarra IRC, around half of our current residents will, over time, need to access aged care services. It is envisioned that Aveo Integrated Retirement Communities will provide residents with an ability to benefit from these services in the one location. During the preliminary planning phase, extensive consideration was given to Aveo Mingarra’s site characteristics and surrounds. The project will also benefit from an award-winning architectural practice who are well versed in site responsive design and retirement living. We’re proud to be investing in a community that we value, and in which we will continue to operate for the future. We look forward to continuing to work with all of our stakeholders and the community to bring the next phase of Aveo Mingarra to life.
The Changing Needs of the Community
Aveo is committed to providing first-class facilities for our current and future residents. In order to provide residents with greater choice, and to ensure that they can continue to live independently for longer, our facilities must be improved and expanded. There are currently 5,036 persons aged over 80 years old (and a further 6,955 are aged above 70 years old) within seven kilometres of Aveo Mingarra IRC. This number is projected to increase by an average 144 persons per year over the next 12 years. There is currently an undersupply of 86 residential aged care beds in Melbourne’s eastern metropolitan region. This undersupply is projected to increase to 1,826 residential aged care beds by the year 2026. We will carefully expand and improve the facilities, amenities and living options offered at Aveo Mingarra IRC to address changing care needs. The proposed development consists of a new Residential Aged Care Facility, three Independent Living Apartment buildings and a new Community Centre.
The proposal seeks to offer:
- A new 110-bed Residential Aged Care Facility with single, premier and superior rooms;
- On-site dementia care;
- 144 Independent Living Apartments consisting of one, two and three bedroom designs;
- Home care assistance for residents should they require it;
- A large and purpose-built Community Centre with amenities such as a lounge and café, multi-purpose function space, outdoor recreation area, residents’ workshop, and a commercial grade kitchen; and
- Walking tracks and generous green open spaces including new plantings
These features and amenities will substantially improve the facilities, service offering and accommodation options at Aveo Mingarra IRC.
