A $21 million new stage development at one of Aveo Group’s premier aged care communities is almost complete, reaffirming the retirement provider’s commitment to invest in upgrades across its Freedom Aged Care portfolio.
Construction at Tanah Merah in Brisbane’s south will be finalised next month, which will feature 62 new private aged care units and new community amenities and services including a media room, hairdressing salon, gym, consulting rooms, memory support unit and sensory garden.
Aveo’s Freedom Aged Care model offers residents the freedom to live as independently as they wish in a non-institutionalised environment and with all the services expected from a high quality private aged care environment. For seniors experiencing increasing care needs, it allows them to age in place with their loved ones and pets over time without having to move.
The Tanah Merah community spans 2.3 hectares and provides a full range of care and support services such as diversional therapists, highly qualified health professionals and 24-hour personal care and nursing staff, working around the clock to ensure residents receive the necessary support required.
Aveo CEO Geoff Grady said the revitalisation and extension of the community meets the growing demands of Brisbane’s ageing population.
“Our Tanah Merah community already delivers superb on-site amenities so we’re particularly excited to bring further amenities for our residents to enjoy today and in the years to come,” Mr Grady said.
“We’ve invested so much thought into each aspect of the upgrade – from a ‘memory node’ space dedicated to helping those with cognitive concerns to the sensory garden which has been designed to stimulate all five senses for people living with dementia.
“Ensuring our residents have access to the best possible care remains our highest priority.”
Following Aveo’s $215 million acquisition of Freedom Aged Care in 2016, the leading retirement living provider now services 13,000 seniors in 91 communities across the country.
“This has been a significant investment of building our care offering across Aveo, and this holistic approach to retirement has allowed us to cater for seniors at all stages of life,” Mr Grady added.
“We’re providing our residents and their families peace of mind so that should their circumstances change down the track, they shouldn’t have to move – we’re truly supporting our model based on creating a community for life.”
With palliative care available on-site, the Freedom community matches a residential aged care facility in services while providing residents the freedom of independent living.
Resident Darryl Williams and his wife moved into the Tanah Merah community earlier this year from the Logan central area.
“We moved as my wife required more care than we could get at home, and we wanted to stay together,” Mr Williams said.
“The care on offer, matched with the amenities provided at Tanah Merah, means that my wife can be cared for and we can stay together… there is no need to worry about the future.”
Existing facilities at Tanah Merah include a community centre, dining room, swimming pool, library, putting green, vegetable gardens, BBQ zones and medical suites together with allied health services.
One and two bedroom units in Tanah Merah start from $425,000 with display units open to the public each showcasing various layouts and configurations.
Local bus stops, Meadowbrook Golf Club, Logan Hyperdome and medical facilities are all less than five minutes’ drive from the community while Brisbane’s CBD is 25 minutes north.
