Manors of Mosman to Host Starlight Lunch
The Manors of Mosman retirement village will host a very special Starlight Foundation Lunch on Monday the 16th of December. All village residents are…
Residents of the Manors of Mosman retirement village with hearing impairments recently benefited from the first Better Hearing Australia morning tea held at the village.
The meeting was facilitated by Judy Cowan, a resident of The Manors and qualified speech therapist, who has worked with the hearing impaired for many years. She started the support group at The Manors of Mosman in order to provide her professional skills, free of charge, to her fellow residents. The meeting, which was held on the 19th of February, was attended by 17 residents and was the first of a series of regular meetings. Mrs Cowan gave an outline of her program and the attendees shared hearing related jokes and stories around the challenges they face with their hearing impairment.
By all accounts, the meeting was fun, informative and helped to break down the stigmas often associated with hearing loss. Future meetings will be held at The Manors of Mosman on the second and fourth Monday of every month from the 24th of March onwards. Friends and family members are encouraged to attend the meetings as a great deal of the education provided is about how to communicate better with the hearing impaired.
