Restoring history

Residents at Freedom Clayfield by Aveo celebrated a new piece of history in their community at the official opening of the newly restored community deck earlier this month.

A meeting hub for residents and staff alike, the deck is located within the residence's iconic Federation House and has been restored for the first time since its initial creation in 1896. The restoration took close to four months to complete from start to finish and is now available for residential use seven days a week.

Onsite at the launch to celebrate was a mix of residents and staff, State Member for Clayfield, MP Tim Nicholls, Federal Member for Brisbane MP MR Trevor Evans, local personality Larry Moses and well-known medical practitioner, Dr Jim Yates.

Talking to the significance of the restoration, Freedom Clayfield Community Manager, Donna Deller, comments the new build signifies the importance of helping residents live a healthy and happy life by providing refreshed community features to foster community spirit.

"Put simply, this deck is the unofficial meeting hub for our Freedom Clayfield community. Here, we host a range of regular activities including our Mother's Day morning tea, Anzac Day celebrations, monthly craft activities and more," said Ms Deller.

"By restoring this deck to its original state, we're paying respect to this federation house that we are lucky enough to enjoy in our own backyard, and that so many within the broader Clayfield community know well as a fixture of this area.

"In addition to the deck, we've made some other updates within the residence to acknowledge our building's heritage, including updating the Gallery with additional artwork to help new and future residents fall back in love with the Federation House all over again," added Ms Deller.

Larry Moses, who has been previously closely involved with the community, also comments on seeing the community thrive under Aveo, noting the fresh deck represents the energy and community spirit of the residents.

"I can't imagine having done anything to equate to what has been done here and making people feel like it is their home. The people that live here; it's their place, it's their home and it's their community," said Mr Moses.

Congratulations to Freedom Clayfield by Aveo - such a wonderful update for both residents and the wider community.
