Sackville Grange celebrated an exclusive book launch for one of their very own residents, Tony Atkinson.
‘A Prescribed Life’, Tony’s memoir, tells of his early life in London in the 1930’s. From the high-society shenanigans he witnessed after becoming footman to Queen Elizabeth II, to moving to Australia with the love of his life and forging a successful medical career, Tony surely has more than a few stories to tell.
Not surprisingly, more than 80 residents, friends and fans attended the exclusive launch and book signing held in the Sackville Grange Theatrette. Residents of Aveo Concierge Balwyn also made a special journey to join in the celebrations. Tony’s two daughters and grandson were also in attendance. All were welcomed with a commemorative speech by Amanda Williams, Sackville Grange’s Village Manager.
After a slideshow presentation, where Tony regaled the audience with his raucous and heart-warming stories, the audience joined together for an afternoon tea of homemade scones with jam and cream, and mixed sandwiches.
One resident called the afternoon “an interesting trove of hilarious and tender anecdotes spanning 86 years of Tony’s life”. All who attended had a marvellous time.
