The Fernbank retirement village in St Ives hosted its annual Melbourne Cup lunch earlier this week to celebrate the race that stops the nation.
Fernbank was lucky enough to have an original Melbourne Cup on display which was provided by a resident whose family member had won the cup in 1942. It was the first Melbourne Cup activity for Fernbank social coordinator, Angela Willett who was ably assisted by Dorothy Walker, a serviced apartment resident. They managed to sell countless sweeps over two days and even balanced the cash flow at the event. It was also the first social activity for Alison Dickson, the village’s newly appointed Registered Nurse and gave her the opportunity meet many residents. Executive Chef, Nick Hall and his team produced an amazing lunch which was enjoyed by the residents who attended the event.
By all accounts, it was a day of fun, laughter and celebration, with a bit of healthy competition thrown in.
