The Aveo Peregian Springs Country Club retirement village recently held its annual toy charity day thanks to the village residents’ knitters group.
Over 500 toys and handy-crafts were on display with a number of items for sale. The toys and crafts were made throughout the year by seven dedicated ladies, all residents of Aveo Peregian Springs Country Club. The group is assisted by donations of materials and wools made by their fellow village residents and friends of the village. The Peregian Lions Club also assists by donating money which is used to purchase stuffing for the toys.
A beautiful gift basket was donated by the Aveo sales team which was raffled off on the day. The money raised from the raffles, the sale of some of the toys and from donations totaled over $1,700 and will be presented to the Sunshine Coast Leukemia Foundation – this was the most money the event has ever raised since starting in 2007. The majority of the toys were donated to local charities and hospitals including the children and babies wards at the Nambour Hospital, the Noosa Hospital, the Sunshine Coast Medical Centre, Bears for Borders, the Nambour Women’s Shelter and the Queensland Ambulance Service. This annual event is truly special and is a fantastic achievement for all involved, particularly given there are just seven village residents who make all of the wonderful toys on display.
